Lab Policies
Introduction
The Department of Geology & Geophysics provides access to a variety of printing hardware including letter/legal size black & white and color printing, large-format color plots, and film printers. These can all be accessed from the computers in the GGCS Computer Lab.

Printing Policy

1) Students - All students who have paid for access to the GGCS Computer Lab may use all of the printers. The following printers are assessed page charges:

  • GGCS LaserJet 5M (600x600 dpi, Black & White):
    $0.05/page
  • GGCS Epson Ink Jet (1440x720 dpi, color):
    $0.75/page
  • HP 1055CM Plotter (600x600 dpi B&W):
    $1/foot Bond
    $2/foot Coated
    $6/foot Glossy

The number of pages printed to either the HP LaserJet or the Epson Ink Jet must be recorded on the sheet provided on the printer table. If there is a printer error causing unintentional print-outs, they can be recorded in the error column on the sheet to avoid being charged. There are two opportunities to cancel printing before the job goes to the printer, so errors should be avoided.

Contact Technical Support (ESB 1036) before sending documents to the HP Poster Plotter.

2) Faculty - Department of Geology & Geophysics staff and faculty may use the HP LaserJet 5M and Epson Stylus Color printers if they do not have one of their own. Those with access to a personal printer should use that printer as their default printer. All prints must be recorded by the user on the sheet provided on the computer table in the GGCS Computer Lab so that they may be billed.

The number of pages printed to either the HP LaserJet or the Epson Ink Jet must be recorded on the sheet provided on the printer table. Please record all printed pages including errors.

Faculty must pay for print jobs sent to the HP DesignJet 1055CM poster plotter. Charges are the same as above.

Charges may be applied to grants or paid in cash. Note that Kinko's charges $30 per linear foot for heavy-coated and $36 per linear foot for high gloss paper.

Important Note:

Contact Technical Support (ESB 1036) before sending documents to the HP Poster Plotter.
